Cardiff Castle, nestled in the heart of Wales' capital city, is a captivating blend of history and architectural splendor. Its origins trace back to the 3rd century Roman occupation, where a fort stood on the site. Later, in the 11th century, Norman invaders built a motte-and-bailey castle atop the Roman ruins. This medieval fortress, with its imposing shell keep and defensive walls, served as a strategic stronghold for centuries.

However, the true transformation of Cardiff Castle occurred during the Victorian era under the ownership of the wealthy Bute family. The 3rd Marquess of Bute commissioned the renowned architect William Burges to redesign the castle into a lavish Gothic Revival mansion. Burges's vision brought the castle to life with opulent interiors adorned with intricate carvings, stained glass, and vibrant murals. Today, visitors can marvel at these stunning rooms, including the opulent State Apartments and the enchanting Egyptian Room.
